General information about the major genome projects
Where to access sequence dataHuman Genome Research at the DOE
working with Human Genome data...NCBI's portal to genome sequence data
The NCBI's Genome Sequencing page is setup as a series of links. Beginning with a chromosome of interest, one follows a series of links, through map regions or individual contigs, to a sequence submission which may be downloaded. There are also links to web servers for BLAST serches of the human genome database, and FTP servers to download bulk raw sequence data.
Ensembl - a join project of EMBL, EBI, and the Sanger Center
The Ensembl project is a work-in-progress to provide links to fully annotated eukaryote genomic data. Again, one follows a series of links to access sequence data from a particular region of the human genome. Search tools, such as BLAST are also available from the side menu.
GOLD - provides links to sequence databases by chromosome
The GOLD site provides links to a large number of genome projects, both complete and ongoing. Selecting the link "* Eukaryotic Ongoing Genomes:" will present a list of organisms, with human towards the bottom of the list and organized by chromosome number. Beside each chromosome heading are links to one or more sites where sequence data for that chromosome may be accessed.
euGenes - "Genomic Information for Eukaryotic Organisms" hosted by the University of Indiana
As stated on their web page - "euGenes provides a common summary of gene and genomic information from eukaryotic organism databases. This includes
- Gene symbol and full name,
- Chromosome, genetic and molecular map information,
- Gene product information (function, structure, and homologies).
- Links to extended gene information.
This summary is automatically maintained from the primary databases."
